Stella is 2011 Scooter of the Year!

by Jo 7. September 2011 11:00

We know Genuine's new four-stroke Stella scooter is great. She shifts like a sports car. She looks like a million bucks. She handles like a freaky Russian gymnast. Now, you can add one more item to the list – She's Motorcycle.com's 2011 Scooter of the Year!

The Motorcycle.com staff was wowed by Stella's classic styling and modern disc brakes, halogen lights, and an eye-popping, EPA-certified 140 mpg fuel economy rating (!). At $3599, the 4-stroke Stella's monocoque steel frame and 50-state engine deliver great value, too – making this year's winner (against competition from Kymco and Vespa) an easy choice.

Head over to your local Genuine dealer to see what all the fuss is about, and check out Scooterworks.com for all the accessories you need to make your new Stella really Yours.

Scooters in the News

by Jo 18. July 2011 12:00

Scooters are big news these days, with this summer's Larry Crowne movie (starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts) and high gas prices ($5.40 in parts of California!) pushing sales to near-record numbers all across the US.

We've covered 2011's outstanding scooter sales before, of course, but this Sunday's Chicago Tribune "Rides" section did one better, chronicling one UCLA student's tryst with her orange Genuine Buddy scooter. "Like many others," the article says, "she could get around more easily on (the Buddy) than on the bus, and more cheaply than in a car."

Of course, you already knew that.

Yamaha Zuma 50F is Back!

by Jo 13. June 2011 11:00

After sitting out 2011, Yamaha is bringing the 132 mpg 4-stroke Zuma 50F back to the US for 2012!

Yamaha's 2012 Zuma 50F picks up where the 2010 model left off, with a steel-tube frame with 42 mm forks up front and single shock setup at the rear, along with a front-mounted disc and a rear drum to bring it the 10"-wheel scooter to a halt in a hurry.

The Zuma's (claimed) 132 mpg translates to just over 160 miles from each 1.2 gallon tank which can be refueled without opening the seat, making the Zuma a handy grocery-getter that's just begging for a Prima rollbag or saddle bags to add to its commuter-cred, or make the weekend fun funner with high-performance clutch upgrades, Dr. Pulley roller weights, or a high-performance rear shock from YSS that will make the 4T Zuma even Zumier!

"Larry Crowne" Scoots to the Big Screen

by Jo 7. June 2011 11:30

With rising gas prices (already $5.40 per gallon, in parts of California) and increased sales, scooters are becoming a part of daily life for many Americans. Some of those new to scootering come to it for purely practical or economic reasons - like Tom Hanks' character in the upcoming movie, Larry Crowne - but they soon discover the same thing we've all discovered while riding: scooters are fun!

You can check out the trailer, above (which shows off Larry's 80's Yamaha scooter quite nicely, thank you) and keep a sharp eye out for the two scooters at 1:39 into it, which show a chrome front rack, top case, and other assorted goodies for the "cool kids'" Vespas ... which you can get here, at Scooterworks.com!
