Kit Bike: the DIY Classic Scooter is Here

Steering a classic set of wheels down a winding road with the wind in your hair and the sun at your back - it's a common daydream among gearheads of both 2 and 4-wheeled inclinations. The reality, though, is often prohibitively expensive, especially in the case of rare classics like Carroll Shelby's 60's-era Cobra roadsters.

On the 4-wheeled side of things, enthusiasts' demands for that "Cobra experience" have led to the evolution of an entire industry and a new kind of vehicle: the kit car.

In recent years, "kit cars" have advanced by leaps and bounds, often delivering an experience more in line with the owner/builder's fantasy than the inevitable let-down of 1960's-era authenticity. These kits use new engines, often with more modern electronics and creature comforts that simply weren't available when the "originals" were first conceived.

So, the car enthusiasts looking for a classic experience (rather than a classic ownership experience) are well-served ... but what about those gearheads with 2-wheeled inclinations we mentioned earlier?

Scooterworks has them covered, with classic Italian scooter looks combined with modern power, performance, and reliability - at a price that won't break the bank.

Scooterworks' kit bikes are more "continuations" than re-creations, making use of authentic steel chassis parts that have been checked for and re-checked to be rust-free and structurally sound. From there, the frame's new owner can equip the bike with a fresh and reliable 5-port, 2-stroke engine, modern electrics, remote-reservoir performance shocks, modern brakes, and safe, modern scooter tires to deliver the sort of fast, fun riding experience that vintage scooter riders remember having (but didn't necessarily have) 40 years ago.

Scooterworks' "continuation" build kits start at $1600 with pre-wired instruments, front suspension, and 10" front wheel/tire - and they're ready to accept a host of accessories like Prima roll bags, windshields, and more. Call Scooterworks for more information.
