America’s Original Scooter Shop Since 1989
Scooterworks USA has been at the heart of American scooter culture since 1989. Founded in Chicago by Phillip McCaleb — a figure widely regarded as the most influential person in building U.S. scooter culture across three decades — Scooterworks grew from the remnants of Vespa of Chicago, a Piaggio dealership that had served the market before the brand withdrew from North America in 1985. McCaleb saw an opportunity where others saw a dead end, and relaunched the operation as Scooterworks, building it into one of the largest U.S. importers of vintage scooter parts through a nationally circulated mail-order catalog.
Through the 1990s, the company's reputation grew alongside the American scooter scene itself. McCaleb was so committed to the community that he co-founded the Vespa Club of America during this period — a testament to the culture-first thinking that has always driven the Scooterworks mission.
When Piaggio re-entered the U.S. market under new ownership in 1999 and bypassed its longstanding relationship with Scooterworks, McCaleb didn't step back — he doubled down. In 2002 he founded The Genuine Scooter Company as a spin-off, sourcing scooters directly from LML of India and expanding the Scooterworks ecosystem into manufacturing and distribution. Today, Scooterworks USA, Genuine Scooters, and Scooterworks Chicago operate as sister companies under Scooterworks Holdings LLC.
The milestones have kept coming. In 2023, Scooterworks USA was named the exclusive OEM parts provider for Chicago Scooter Company, adding more than 350 parts to the catalog. Then in April 2025, Scooterworks acquired Parts for Scooters, a move that significantly expanded coverage across Genuine, Honda, Yamaha, GY6-platform scooters, ATVs, and mini bikes.
In recent years, Scooterworks has also expanded well beyond traditional gas-powered platforms. As two-wheeled transportation has evolved, so has our catalog — now covering parts and accessories for electric kick scooters, eBikes, eScooters, eMopeds, electric dirt bikes, and electric motorcycles. Whether you're maintaining a last-mile commuter or a full-size electric moto, Scooterworks is building the parts infrastructure to support the next generation of riders.
A team of two-wheel obsessives who actually know what they're selling. From trained technicians to longtime riders, the Scooterworks staff brings decades of combined experience to every order, every parts lookup, and every customer question. Whether you're restoring a vintage scooter or maintaining a modern electric ride, you're getting guidance from people who ride, wrench, and genuinely care about keeping you on two wheels.
Scooterworks USA operates from its warehouse on Grand Avenue in Chicago — the same city where it all started over 35 years ago.
